Herren 2. Liga - In the Bären's den

Herren 2. Liga - BC Bären Kleinbasel 2 vs LB44 (67:89)
Basel, 22.Dec.2016

In the hot summer of 2000, the LB44 HU15 team (then SCL Basketball) earned its finest Kleinbasel prize (picture) in the first Bären Cup tournament. Till this day, Bären never forgot.

In the first quarter, the strongest Papa Bear, Daniel Stark (ex Swiss National player) allowed his 3 baby cubs (HU19 players) to created havoc for LB44. LB44 quickly fell behind as the cubs attacked every square meter in its cave. Poor Santhosh spent most of his time sprawling on the court saving loose balls, once on his feet, no longer able sink his dangerous three’s, only hitting air out of confusion. With minor adjustments, LB44 finally pulled ahead by 7 to end the quarter. Papa Bear was upset, entered his den with a storming force before leaving the LB44 team scattered across the floor and suffocating its Chienbäse flame. By end of the half Papa Bear racked up 7 points to put his family ahead by 3. The 3rd quarter was a repeat of the first quarter, the continuing battle of transition basketball, the game LB44 plays best, however the cubs would not give way, fiercely biting at the legs of our players. Ending the 3rd quarter the cubs could no longer maintain their intensity, LB44 pulled ahead by 6. In the 4th quarter, Daniel’s sloth gave it one more shot until the bears slouched into hibernation after LB44’s own Bear, Ilir, scored a career record personal best of 10 points in ten minutes, demolishing the Bären’s den, a 22 point advantage romp to end the game.

In the adjoining hall, CVJM Riehen Basket, still licking its wounds from their last game with LB44 (report), won by 10 against Bären 3 in the other final game of the H2L 1st half season. LB44 ends 2016 in 2nd place one free throw point ahead of CVJM Riehen. The two Bären teams begin their long peaceful winter hibernation pause.
